solar electricity

Many people have already begun to explore the advantages of meeting their electricity requirements with solar (photovoltaic) electricity. Why?

Why solar electricity?

Cut your electricity bills?

Sunlight is free, so once you've paid for the initial installation your electricity costs will be significantly reduced. A typical home photovoltaic system can produce around 40% of the electricity a household uses in a year.

Become your own electricity company?

If you’re thinking of installing a solar PV energy solution but are concerned that you might over simage:light bulb with tree insidepecify your electricity requirements, don’t worry! Solar in Spain designs and installs a range of grid-connected power systems allowing the ability to earn rebates from government run ‘Feed-In’ programmes* - selling your electricity back to the supplier. So should your home be vacant for part of the year or your solar system is producing more electricity than you need, you can sell it!

(* Individual programmes are Country/Territory specific)

Save the planet?

Well perhaps not on your own, but you can do your bit and reduce your carbon footprint.

Photovoltaic electricity generates no air pollution, releases no carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, sulphur dioxide, or mercury into the atmosphere. It operates silently, has no moving parts and releases no odours. In short, it has zero contribution to acid rain, global warming or smog.

Not connected to the grid?

Why not store some electricity for a cloudy day? If your home is not connected to the national grid you can store surplus photovoltaic electricity in batteries for when you need it.

How does it work?

Solar electricity or photovoltaic electricity (PV) is the generation of electricity from sunlight

Solar panels contain thousands of solar cells. Their job is to collect light photons and convert the energy they contain into direct current or DC electricity.

This photo-generated DC electricity can be used directly, to charge a battery, or passed through a machine called an inverter, which converts it into alternating current or AC electricity, the type used to power household equipment.
